Malawi President Chakwera Tonse admin releases MK1bn for Covid-19 face-masks with Lilongwe’s lion share

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government has released MK1 billion which is meant to purchase face masks for the general public.

This follows public outcry that despite making it mandatory for everyone to be wearing face masks, some people are still giving excuses that they cannot afford buying masks.

A memo in Maravi Post custody signed by Siphiwe Mauwa Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, the funds have been disbursed to all district councils to buy masks to be distributed to communities.

But this publication budget analysis has disclosed that Lilongwe which is Chakwera’s home district has received lion share of funds despite having low population on the need for face- masks as many live in rural areas with less cases of Covid-19.
