LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The state house has acknowledged the delay of the Zikomo presidential awards for health workers.

The awards were meant to motivate personnel in delivering quality health services to people in public health facilities.

In August 2020,president Lazarus Chakwera announced the Zikomo awards as a way of recognising the role healthy workers are doing in the country amidst covid-19 pandemic.

Some quarters said while the decision was a commendable idea awarding only 5 health workers in the County is a mockery considering that they are alot of health workers all sacrificing to save people’s lives.

In an interview with the State house press secretary Brian Banda said the ministry of health is still working on modalities of the awards the process which is expected to be finalised this month.

Banda said office of president and cabinet is waiting for the ministry of health to finalise the technical aspect.

“The zikomo awards being technical in nature there’s now ministry of health that have set up a technical team that will look at the modalities on how the awards will be conducted,” he said.

Minister of health spokesperson Joshua Malango said the process will be done by January 2021.
