LILONGWE, Malawi – 19 January 2015 (MaraviPost): President of the Republic of Malawi H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika has hailed late Bishop Joseph Mukasa Zuza as courageous person whose legacy and contribution to the country need to be studied.
“As a leader of Episcopal Conference of Malawi; late Zuza was very tolerant, generous, calm, understanding, knowledgeable and courageous judging from how he used to handle issues of religious and national interest. He was a Champion for change and as Malawians, we will miss such a true servant of God” said Mutharika during the burial ceremony of late Bishop Zuza which was held in Mzuzu.
The Malawi leader urged Malawians to emulate Zuza’s life. He said: “His legacy should be deeply studied and acted out; so that his living should not have been in vain. May his reward be commensurate with”.
Bishop Zuza died on Thursday last week from the serious injuries he sustained in a car accident in Chikangawa near Nthungwa in Mzimba district.
Zuza is well known for rebuking former Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika for his autocratic leadership style, saying any person who thinks is always perfect is wrong and “chindere chakufikapo”.
The late Bishop Zuza will also be remembered for his stout opposition against homosexuality and outsiders that were fundings some Civil Society organizations to agitate on the Gay rights practices which are not tolerated by the Majority in the country.
Until his death, Bishop Joseph Mukasa Zuza was bishop of the Mzuzu Diocese and Chairman for the ECM. He was ordained as Bishop of the Mzuzu Dioceses in 1995
