LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Netball Team has finished second at the just ended African Netball Championship that took place in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Queens only lost a single game to the host and the winners of the Championship, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
On their arrival through Kamuzu International Airport on Thursday, Head Coach, Peace Chawinga Kaluwa was all joyful that her players have made Malawi proud.
“Malawians have to know that they have a strong side. What we need to do is to keep the team strong and support the players,” said Chawinga Kaluwa.
In approbation, Netball Association of Malawi President, Khumbekire Matiya said the team needs more support if it is to perform better in the future.
Matiya said: “We applaud our girls for fighting until the last minute. And they did very well. They came Number Two. They were only defended by South Africa but the rest of the games, they won. So, we are very proud of them and we are happy that they are now Number Two in Africa. We will now have more international friendly games so that our girls can compete better at that level.”
The Queens lost to South Africa by a narrow margin of 56 to 51 baskets in the opening game but won all the matches. They defeated Uganda 49 to 45 baskets.
