Malawi Queens set for Diamond Challenge in South Africa

Malawi national netball team the Queens is set for the Diamond Challenge Cup in South Africa when the face Uganda on Tuesday in South Africa.

Coach Peace Kalua-Chawinga said the Queens were ready to put up a majestic performance at the tournament despite being in camp for one week.

 

‘The players are determined to impress despite camping for just one for one week. Most of them are in shape and this is because they were taking part in the Airtel Money national netball tournament,’ Kalua-Chawinga said.

She said the Diamond Challenge would also be used to prepare for the Africa Netball Championship later this month and then the World Netball Championship set for Sydney, Australia in August.

‘We have started this journey and we need to make thorough assessment if we are going to make meaningful impact,’ she said.

The coach would also be required to break the team’s jinx of failing to break into the top four in the world.

Malawi are currently ranked fifth in the world their best ever position and number one in the Africa.

The Queens squad comprises defenders; Caroline Mtukule Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Joanna Kachilika, Martha Dambo, Grace Mwafulirwa, Laureen Ngwira,
centre; Rose Saili, Rose Mkanda, Thandi Galeta, Tokondwa Lwazi.

Shooters; Joyce Mvula, Sindi Simtowe, Ellen Chibokho, Cecelia Mtukule.
