
Following the short detention former Inspector General of the Malawi Police, also former director general of State Residences Peter Mukhito, The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has seized seven auto mobiles belonging to him
Steven Kapoloma, Head of Corporate Affairs at the tax collecting body has confirmed in a statement.

MRA says following a tip, on Thursday, 30th July 2020, it conducted a search at Mukhito residence in Lilongwe for suspected tax evasion involving auto mobiles.
The search has resulted to the seizure of seven motor vehicles pending production of customs clearance documentation.
The following are the details of the detained motor vehicles:
- Toyota Land Cruiser (VX8), registration number BW 6060.
- Range Rover – No number plate.
- Toyota Land Cruiser (VX8) – No number plate.
- Mercedes Benz, registration number CPM.
- VW Passat, registration number CP 7074.
- Toyota Fortuner, registration number MH 950.
- Bentry, registration number FW16LS-GP.
The seized motor vehicles are being kept at MRA offices while the Authority conducts further investigations.
Meanwhile the Authority is calling all people (Like in the Kamuzu Banda era where neighbor was encouraged to spy on his neighbor) who have information on any suspected tax evasion to share it through Tip-Offs Anonymous line 847 or submit tips to any MRA offices across Malawi.
