
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-S.S.Sakuwa Steel Limited, one of the country’s wood consumers for house roofing on Wednesday in conjunction with department of forestry in the ministry of natural resources planted over 10,000 trees at Mitundu, Lilongwe Nsinja North constituency.
Sakuwa Steel Limited Managing Director Levison Moyo told The Maravi Post that the exercise aimed at giving back to the community as source of wood for houses’ roofing completion.
Moyo noted that housing could not be sustained without trees hence the support towards planting exercise.
He therefore urged Malawians to embrace their products, “We are a Malawian based-Iron sheet roofing company. The public must buy our products as monies stay here with taxes paid to revenue body.
“The planting exercise therefore aims at giving back to communities as they need wood with iron sheets for houses roofing. We will make sure that trees planted today are retained and growth”, assures Moyo.
Natural Resources Minister Binton Kutsayira lauded the company for timely support towards environmental conservation amid wonton of trees.
Kutsayira who presided over the planting exercise warned charcoal traders that next week the ministry will have sweeping exercise for the commodity in all selling points across the country.
Malawi government plans to plant about 62 million trees in 2019/2020 growing season across the country.
