LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government says is very committed to successfully host African Union Region 5 Youth games.
Minister of Youth, Sports and development, Richard Chimwendo Banda made assurance when he faced the press in the capital Lilongwe on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 on preparedness of the country in hosting the games.
Chimwendo disclosed that the ministry has made strides in preparations that is optimistic of beating the October deadline set by African Union Region 5 Council to complete all the preparations.
He hinted that Aquatic Sports complex at Kamuzu Institute for Sports and Griffin Saenda Sports Complex are nearing completion.
Chimwendo added work has commenced in other sports facilities such as Civo Stadium, Silver Stadium, villages and other facilities that are earmarked to hosting the games.
The Minister further said,2150 foreigners are expected to patronise the games but he was quick to say the number may increase or decrease as the registrations are still underway until end October, 2022.
“Foreign nationals are eager to patronise the games in large numbers which will be a source of foreign currency in the country”, he said
Meanwhile as the 100 days count down before the country host the games The ministry of Youth and Sports and Local organizing Committee are anticipated to unveil the official Sponsor for the Region 5 Youth games, a local Bank which its identity will be known later this evening.
