
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Supreme Court of Appeal on Thursday, April 16, 2020 thrown out on window Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) an appeal to extend days for fresh presidential elections.
This means the Constitutional Court (ConCourt)’s February 3, 2020 order that the polls be held within 150 days still stand.
MEC made an appeal following COVID-19 pandemic which the country has registered 16 cases with two death as of April 15, 2020.
In his ruling Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda hinted the need for the commission to respect the ConCourt arguing that the same application was denied by the lower court.
