Malawi must comply with global tourism market standards and strictly manage the tourism investors if the country’s development is to reclaim its glory, says Minister of Information. Tourism and Civic Education Jappie Mhango.
He was speaking during the Grand Official opening of Simama Hotel on Thursday 2015, at Simama Hotel in Lilongwe when he reveal that tourism levy help to govern Malawi economy effectively and Simama Group of companies have embrace international standards in as far as tourism sector is concerned.
“For the Malawi tourism to be competitive on the global market, there are a number of important things that need to be looked into such as compliance to internationally acceptable standards for building facilities in tourism sector. The levy collected will help government to push up service delivery and charges in different sector of working forces”, he said.
He stressed the need for local investors to emulate a good job well done by Simama Group of Companies. The attracting Simama hotel is a sign that Malawi tourism in tourism is growing at a positive note hence encouraging tourist to visit Malawi.
Chairman for Simama Group of Companies Bishop Abraham Simama lament that the hotel is not only to earn income for government through tax but also will provide job opportunity to 100 people; this is to add a success to their livelihoods.
“For decade now poor quality services and standards have been a thorn in the flesh because important tourist and investors failed to visit Malawi. But Simama hotels has come to break the silence in far accommodations outcry are concerned. This is only be achieved by the grace of God, the future plans are that Simama companies should grow more and more on tourism market”, he commented.
Secretory for Tourism Elsie Tembo, recommended Simama Group of Companies saying that the hotel has marked a positive milestone to the development of Malawi. Presence of disability service and structures enables the hotel to be different to others. Meanwhile, she assured public that government will continue supporting local investor in tourism sector.
