Lilongwe is one of the few Capital Cities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries which faces enormous shortage of accommodation.
Currently the well-known hotels are Capital Hotel, Lilongwe Hotel and Golden Peacock Hotel.
However of late the capital city has just received a new Hotel named Simama.
This Hotel is situated along M1 road and has 52 rooms.
Former minister of information tourism and culture Kondwani once described the hotel as a boost to the tourism sector in Malawi.
How special is this hotel. James Bottoman is the Hotel Manager;
“Our aim is to provide competitive prices since this is a Malawian Hotel.” Said Bottoman.
Bottoman has since disclosed that Malawi President Peter Mutharika has approved opening of the hotel. He has delegated new Minister of Tourism Jappie Mhango to do the honors.
“Yes it’s true. Minister of Tourism Jappie Mhango will perform the activity on behalf of the President and we are grateful to Malawi Government for this grand opening,” Said Bottoman.
Simama Hotel according to Bottoman has been operating on trial basis for a year.
