…..Malawi 2-0 South Sudan
JUBA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Under-20 Women’s National Football Team took a major step towards advancing in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after defeating South Sudan 2-0 in Juba on Tuesday afternoon.
Goals from Enelesi Fabiano and Sarah Mlimbika sealed the win for the visitors who displayed composure and tactical discipline throughout the match.
Malawi dominated large portions of the game, keeping South Sudan at bay with a solid defensive setup while capitalizing on key chances in attack.
Head coach Maggie Chombo praised her young side for their determination and focus in a challenging away fixture.
Speaking after the match, Chombo said she was impressed by the fighting spirit shown by her players, especially considering the intensity of the contest.
“To be honest, we played very well but South Sudan also put up a strong fight. This was not an easy game and I am glad we managed to score and secure this result,” Chombo said.
She further revealed that her technical team had carefully studied South Sudan’s style of play in preparation for the match which helped the team approach the game strategically.
“We knew what to expect from South Sudan, so we went into the match with a clear plan. Now we must stay focused because the second leg on Friday is equally important,” she added.
Malawi will need at least a draw to progress while South Sudan will have to win by a margin of three goals to overturn the deficit on second leg.
This victory gives Malawi a significant boost in their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, a tournament the country has never reached before.
