LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) says that more than 762, 702 people with print disabilities will benefit from the copyright bill in Malawi.
During the copyright bill presentation ceremony on Thursday at Sight Savers in the capital Lilongwe MUB programmes officer Latim Matenje told the Maravi post that printed bill copies will help many in the country.
Matenje explains that the bill has modified section 49 of the Malawi copyright law that it should allow people with print disabilities to change already published works in a format that “they can easily read and understand on their own in an international level, rather the previous law which was restricting visual impaired”.
Jessie Chayamwaka chief rehabilitation officer in the department of the disability and elderly in the ministry of gender , children, disability and social welfare says that the exercise is very important for the fact that people with print disabilities have been denied for along for public works.
She observed that people have been learning with problems because of the time the published works are in print so the people with print disabilities rely on others to lead for them”.
Chayamwaka added that amendments is very crucial because it will improve Access to information for persons with print disabilities as they will be able to read on their own.
