Malawi veep Chilima warns against tardiness as he sends back late-comers at public sector reform meeting

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)–Vice-President Saulos Chilima has today  sent back late-comers who were set to attend public sector reforms meeting at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, it has been established.

Some delegates to the meetings confided in The MaraviPost that a number of officials from different government departments and parastatal organisations who came after 9am were sent back as others were seen seating outside the room waiting for the meeting to finish.

It is indicated that Chilima arrived at BICC at exactly 08:50am, for the meeting that was to start at 9am.

Chilima, who is also Minister for Economic Planning and Development; and Public Sector Reforms, is holding an interface meeting with the leadership of Parastatal Organisations, the Private Sector and Local Councils on the implementation of the reforms agenda in the new administration of Lazarus Chakwera.

The Vice President is engaging Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Directors of Finance for Parastatal Organisations based in the central region as well as CEO for Lilongwe City Council.

In 2016, Chilima also sent back late-comers and poorly-dressed district council officials who were set to attend public sector reforms meetings in Blantyre.

Meanwhile, social media is abuzz with applause to the vice president for sending a strong message to civil servants that discipline is of paramount importance in the civil service.
