Malawi witchdoctor, six others arrested for selling human bones

BLANTYRE (Maravipost) — Police in Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre have arrested seven people, among them a 48 year-old traditional doctor White John, after they were found with four human bones.

The suspects were selling the four human bones at K8 million, according to Limbe Police spokesperson, Chifudo Kansunje.

“We were tipped by the general public that some were selling the bones and the law enforcers posed as buyers and discovered that the men were selling four human bones at K8 million,” said Kansunje.

 

They were arrested at Mkando trading centre in Mulanje on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as 34 year-old Francis Mateyu, 24 Gerald Maonga, Litandi Chalima, 32, Stanley Salijeni, 27, John Mjuka, aged 32, a Mr a Hopkins 23 and the traditional doctor, White John, are said to have exhumed a graveyard of a person who died in 2002 in Tambala village, Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje district.

The suspects have been charged with an offence of being found with body parts contrary Section 329 of the Penal Code.
