Malawian artist Lawi nominated for AFRIMA 2014 awards

BLANTYRE (Maravipost)–Malawian artist, Lawi is among best male artists in Southern Africa nominated for this year’s All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA).

Other nominated best male artists from Southern Africa are Kueno Alonda and Eddy from Angola, South Africa’s Heavy K, Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah and Namibia’s The Dogg.

While South Africa’s Zahara, Zambia’s Mapi, Zimbabwe’s Cindy Munyavi, Mozambique’s Dama Do Bling, South Africa’s Lira, and Mozambique’s Lizah James make the list of best female artists in Southern Africa.

Other four regions of Africa–namely North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa and Eastern Africa–have got best male and best female nominees as well.

Lawi has been nominated for his truck titled ‘Whistle song”(one nomination).

Nigerian artist Davido and South African musicians Mafikizolo and Uhuru received the highest number of nominations at the AFRIMA, according to a list released last Wednesday in Lagos, Nigeria.

Davido and Mafikizolo received six nominations each while Uhuru got five nominations.

Mi Casa (South Africa) and TemiDollFace (Nigeria) got four nominations each while Zahara (South Africa) and Wiyaala (Ghana) received three nominations each. Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Amr Diab (Egypt), Angelique Kidjo (Benin Republic), Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Patoranking (Nigeria) and Noura Mint Seymale (Mauritania) all have two nominations each.

There are 33 award categories and 31 of these will be opened for voting by the public and AFRIMA Academy of voters, according to www.afrima.org
