NTCHISI-(MaraviPost)—The fear of the wife’s anger after selling farm produces without her consent has landed a man into death when he hanged himself in Malawi’s central district of Ntchisi.Ntchisi Police Station Spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha has identified the deceased as Winston Makalichi who committed the suicide at Masula village in the district.
M’bumpha told The Maravi Post that Makalichi had sold four buckets of unshelled groundnuts and later hanged himself for fear of his wife’s anger.
M’bumpha added that on Monday, this week, the buyer went to the deceased home to collect the groundnuts while Makalichi was away for drinking spree.
“The wife was surprised to learn that his husband had already taken the money without her acknowledgement. Upon realizing that the wife wouldn’t be happy with his conduct, the deceased decided to commit suicide.
“Early morning of Tuesday, Makalichi was found hanging in a tobacco shed. His remains was later taken to the hospital where post-mortem revealed that the death was a result of suffocation,” said M’bumpha.
The late Makalichi hailed from Masula Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Chilooko in Ntchisi district.
