World Vision International’s Regional Leader for Southern Africa Mark Kelly on Wednesday visited Group Village Headman (GHV) Dete Traditional Authority (T.A) Mazengera in Lilongwe rural.
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawian men in rural areas are said be shunning mosquito nets over the misconception the latter contributes to impotent.
Not only that but also suggesting that mosquito nets attract bed-backs and cause chocking when sleeping under the net.
This was observed during the media tour World Vision International’s Regional Leader for Southern Africa Mark Kelly had on Wednesday at Group Village Headman (GHV) Dete, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mazengera in Lilongwe rural.
World Vision distributed over 10.6 million mosquito nets to 3.9 million households, which will cover over 17 million people with new treated mosquito.
The visit aimed at appreciating how successful 2018 mass mosquito net distribution was which WVM carried across the country.
GVH Dete told journalists that net distribution was successful that his subjects are now secured from Malaria.
The chief however bemoaned some households’ men behaviors of shunning mosquito nets over impotent mist.

“The distribution exercise was very successful without huddles that all my subjects are now sleeping in net. This has reduced Malaria cases in my villages.
“The challenge remains that some men believe that nets attracts bed-backs and are also contribute to impotent,” confesses GVH Dete.
The visiting World Vision International’s Regional Leader for Southern Africa Kelly express gratitude over successful net distribution saying the move will contain Malaria completely.
“I wish to commend the government of Malawi, in particular, the ministry of health for having this primary health care structure which enables World Vision and other partners investing in health care in Malawi to effectively reach the Last Mile,that is communities.
“Primary health care is an essential element of any country to attain its SDG 3 on good health and well-being. Malawi is among the countries that must be recognized for efforts towards universal access to health care as a result of the village clinic structures,” said Kelly.
He however assured the general public that the local team intensify awareness campaign on how useful sleeping in net is to contain Malaria.
