MZUZU-(MaraviPost): Saving marriage from a possible collapse in Mzuzu City has claimed an eight months-old baby’s life following suspected poisoning by the mother.
Eluby Luhanga committed the crime last Sunday, July 17 in the city.
The police publicist Bwanali said Eluby poisoned the baby boy by giving him a tomato soaked in insecticide chemical. It is said that she did this to please her husband who denied being the baby’s biological father.
Bwanali explained that the suspect got married to Masugzo Nyambose while she was already pregnant and she claimed Nyambose was responsible for it.
“When the woman’s relatives realized what Eluby did (Poisoning him), they rushed the baby to Ekwendeni mission hospital where he was admitted. But the child died on the following day which according to medical report said the death was due to poison.
“The child was born eight months ago but the husband began claiming that the baby boy was not his son. This was a constant source of conflict in the family. Eluby told the police that she decided to eliminate her son’s life in a bid to bring peace and sustain the marriage,” said Bwanali.
Eluby remains in police custody waiting to appear in court to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
