Malawians in South Africa donate K13 million to assist Flood Victims back at home

Johannesburg, February 18: The Association of Malawians in South Africa (AMSA) has donated assorted relief items to flood victims in Malawi through the Malawi Mission in the Republic of South Africa

According to AMSA Communication Officer, Dr. Isaac Mantjie, the total cost of the donated items is worth R350, 000 (equivalent to K13million).

Receiving the items on behalf of the Malawi Government, the Acting Consul General, Mrs Naomi Saukira, commended AMSA members for mobilising the items to be distributed to the victims in Malawi.

Saukira also noted that Malawians in South Africa have the passion and love for their country as more Malawians have donated various items and cash and they have organised more activities in order to raise more resources for the same cause.

Therefore, she appealed to Malawians in South Africa to continue working together, saying that is the only way they can assist their country.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the Chairperson of AMSA, Priscilla Masinga, aka Aunt Mpho said her association was also touched as any other, hence prompted them to meet as AMSA and strategize as to what they could offer as an immediate assistance to the victims in Malawi. Then they agreed to mobilise resources from themselves as well as well-wishers in South Africa.

The items they have donated through the Acting Consul General in Johannesburg include 1,800 brand shirts, 100 blankets, 100 bags of assorted clothing (second hand) 2 bags of men and women shoes.

The Acting Consul General assured them that the relief items will reach the targeted floods victims in Malawi.
