LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has made it clear that the commission will follow proper procedures in result management, urging people to observe patience as the process may take time.
Giving an update on result management at the MEC National Tally Center, MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr. Annabel Mtalimanja said as of 7 PM today, records of results are at 69.19%.
“The records of results as of 7 PM today was at 28, 506 representing a 69.19% of the total expected results which is 41,198,” said Mtalimanja.
The MEC Chairperson further said the commission will not start announcing results till all results, both physical and electronic result records. are received at the National Tally Centre,
Mtalimanja added that MEC will not use shortcuts but follow guidelines according to the Election Law, which she stipulates that elections results should be processed and transmitted from polling station to constituency returning Officer and then, to district returning officer before submitting them to the National Tally Center.
She admitted that the process takes time but the guidelines need to be followed as per procedure.
Commenting on the election results retrival rate from polling stations to constituency tally centres, the Commission said as of 8 PM, it was at 99.86% .
