LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Work on the much touted, Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL) awaits for an official communication from International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for them to have basketball league.
General Secretary for BASMAL Peter Gomani said they have not yet received official information from FIBA.
“We have not yet received any official communication from FIBA since wrote for acknowledgement to have Malawi Basketball league as we need to get a blessing from them. So we are yet to do anything only until we receive full information that is when will take action,” Gomani said.
He said as they are also waiting from FIBA to communicate to them how they can operate the league.
Gomani also said:”Since it’s a new league, we will wait to first of all understand their intentions before we can express how our affiliates will response.
A courtesy from a local radio station, Women’s Director for BASMAL, Lusungu Banda said the league will also be an opportunity for Malawian teams to gain more exposure.
“Countries felt it was necessary to have this league just like COSAFA in football. I think this is an opportunity for teams in Malawi to gain more exposure in the game of basketball,” Banda said.
