LILONGWE-(Maravi Post)–Youth organization, Area 25 Friends for Development (AFDEV) has donated blankets to over hundred elderly people at Group Village Headman Lundu in Lilongwe in response to winter season request. The donation follows the grouping’s successful Good Friday bash it hosted in March this year to raise funds for the needy in accessing quality education.

The grouping is into hygienic, sanitary and education projects for residents living in area in a bid to improve their well being with locally mobilized resources.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Maravi Post after the donation on Friday, Geoffrey Kunje, AFDEV’ Chairperson emphasized the need for the young people to be involved in charitable work especially towards life improvement of the marginalized groups including the elderly, orphans, windows and among others.

Kunje said more resources are required to meet the large demand of school needy and improvement of sanitary facilities at Area 25 Health Centre which are in bad state.

“This is part of the proceeds we got from the Good Friday bash the group hosted in March. We are responding to the request in readiness of the winter season when blankets are needed especially to the elderly who cant afford to buy one because of their financial ad age status. Let’s therefore treat the elderly with care. It doesn’t mean that if one is aged is a wizard or witch. This mist must be removed in our mind.

“With the high demand on the ground, the grouping will continue to mobilize resources in achieving the objective of trying to make Area 25, a better place to live. This is the reason we are still appealing for more material and financial support from business captains, politicians, government officials living in Area 25. Their support can be channeled through our secretariat based at Msungwi Market at Area 2, in the capital Lilongwe through these contacts; Tell: +265 (0) 888 702 822/ +265 (0) 993 074 594, Email: afdevngo@yahoo.com,”  said Kunje.

Expressing gratitude towards the donation, Maria Foster, a granny from M’bangala, village said the forthcoming winter will not be a worrying season but enjoyable due to the cover up gotten.

“This is timely intervention as I have been struggling to have a blanket which is an important assert towards the winter season that has just began. Not many think of us the old people as the society aligned us to witchcraft,” delighted Foster.
