CHIKWAWA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a 27-year-old woman after she allegedly burned both hands of her 11-year-old son for eating Kalongonda ( velvet bean).

According to the public relations officer for chikwawa police Foster Benjamin the suspect, Alefa Isaac, was apprehended on Friday.

The incident occurred Thursday evening at Saidi village, Traditional Authority Mulilima in the district.

The victim is said to have eaten kalongonda while his mother was away.

On her return, the mother got angry after realising that her son had helped himself to the relish.

She immediately placed the child’s hands on a fire causing severe burns and locked him in the house until Friday morning.

The victim’s granny took the child to Chikwawa District Hospital after reporting to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

She has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Isaac is from Saidi village, Traditional Authority Mulilima in Chikwawa District.
