DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-Learners in some schools in Dedza have taken to the streets to vent out their anger over failure of their teachers to teach them due to a sit in and demonstrations they are currently conducting.
According to one of the teachers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the learners are marching to Dedza District Council where they want to collect salaries for their teacchers who did not receive the same in December last year.
Apparently, random spot checks that Maravi Post has conducted in some schools around the cities and districts in the country show that teachers are marching to the Offices of District Education Managers (DEM) to deliver their petitions.
Commenting on the situation, Secretary General for the Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM), Charles Kumchenga, has said the sit in and the demonstrations by the teacchers will continue until those who did not receive their salaries last month start to receive the same.
Efforts to draw a reaction from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), through the Spokesperson, Lindiwe Chide, proved futile as her phone went unanswered after several attempts.
