The Minister of Education, Science and Technology Dr Bright Msaka has warned all government Primary and secondary Headteachers to stop requesting school fees and development fund for parents, guardians and sponsors of students as government primary and secondary schools are free of charge.
The minister made the remarks in Balaka where he was officially launching a communication project between school committees and ministry of education, whereby the later will be able to make official complaints on the issues they are facing in their schools.
The ministry saw it fit to provide a platform for school committees to be able to air their grievances.
In his remarks the Minister stated that ” the government has provided enough funds through the DDF and LDF which is meant to for development of schools hence no need for students to pay fees or school fund. The sources all carter for all needs in the schools. As such no teacher should be found requesting money from students in the name of school fees or school funds. Our school are free of charge and no learner should be sent back due to non payment. All teachers found doing this with face harsh causes.”
Many parents have applauded the warning as many claim to have been paying an exorbitant amount of money in the name of development fund. Many times it’s believed that the money has made a lot of headmasters and headmistress to richen their pockets rather than develop their schools
