Malawi’s ex-intelligence chief Kalilani, State House ICT expert Chingwalungwalu freed on bail

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)–Principal Magistrate Viva Nyimba of the Lilongwe Registry has granted bail to former Director General of National Intelligence Services, Dr. Kenam Kalilani, along with former State House Chief ICT officer, Chance Chingwalungwalu who were arrested weeks ago on theft charges.

Bail conditions include payment of K500,000 each,  noncash surety of K500,000 each, report to Area 30 Police every two weeks Friday, submit travelling documents to police.

They have also been ordered not to leave Lilongwe unless they communicate with police headquarters.

However, the state wants the two accused to continue working with investigators for further investigation while they already had 14 days to conclude their investigations.

The state further say the two may have other charges added to them and another third accused person may be arrested or added to the case.

The matter has since been adjourned to 31 August .

The two were arrested weeks ago for allegedly stealing government computers.

State prosecutor Moji Phiri told the court that the police  confiscated the computers and corresponding systems.
