LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former amateur coach, Andy Muyaya is ready to take up role for all young amateur boxers in professional academy boxing school have a chance to access some formal boxing lessons courtesy of a boxing school scheduled to open soon.
Scorpion Academy is a brain child of Muyaya which will be sited at Chichiri Profitness Gym in Blantyre, as a way of training young boxers from the age of seven years-old and above in order to groom the amateur boxers to professional boxers.
In an interview, Muyaya said the aim is to offer basic skills to many young amateurs who aspire to be professional boxers and to groom them to fight in Region-Five league which consists of Under-18 boxers.
“Boxing starts from ground roots and then it starts from seven to 18 years-old so this is why I want to start training young ones because I want to groom them to have experience to fight in Under-20 games and for them to become professional boxers,” he said.
He said a number of things that he was looking forward to open an academy after he left coaching but so far he is asking for donations for boxing equipments from well-wishers, but as of now he has managed to get part of the equipments from his fellow coach, Anderson Kazembe who is in South African.
Muyaya boasted of an impressive work done, having produced good amateur boxers who have now turned to be professional boxer to some notable boxers among are Isaac Chilemba, Wilson Masamba, Chimwemwe Chiotcha, Happiness Nkhoma and others.
Though in this case, he has engaged different boxing stakeholders in specific fields who he has asked to have three gyms from all the three regions in our country in order to have a good strategy for a good and professional academy.
On his part, President of Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board, Lonzoe Defector Zimba said he has no objection for Muyaya to have his own gym to train young boxers.
“This idea is a great development for Malawi boxing because it is going to be very important for boxers as they will be groomed and graduate from amateur boxers to professional boxers. It is going to be so helpful because our boxers will be ready to fight in games because they will be training all the time. So I am in support of it,” Zimba said.
He disclosed that the board is ready to support Muyaya and we surrender all our blessings to him.
