The Geological Surveys Department in the Ministry of Natural Resources Energy and Mining is scheduled to launch the much awaited countrywide high resolution airborne geophysical data slated for August 20, 2015 in the capital Lilongwe.
The development comes in the heels of the ministry’s advanced stage in reviewing the country’s Mines and Minerals Act which will control the willy-nilly individuals and companies who actually exploit communities by not committing themselves to social-cooperate responsibility.
Through a press statement released early this week which is also available to The Maravi Post said the department has been conducting a countrywide high resolution airborne geophysical survey with the aim of acquiring new geophysical data which will give prospective investors to appreciate what the country has on stock on minerals ready exploration.
“The Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Natural Resources Energy and Mining has been conducting a countrywide high resolution airborne geophysical survey with the aim of acquiring new geophysical data.
“This exercise is within a component under the Mining Governance and Growth Support Project (MGGSP) which is co-financed by World Bank and European Union. The survey commenced on 23rd September, 2013 with the process of data acquisition using low flying fixed wing aircraft such that by 28th June, 2015 the final geophysical data was submitted to the Ministry.
“The Department of Geological Surveys of Malawi partnered with Sander Geophysics Limited of Canada and British Geological Surveys international in the implementation of this important survey.
The Ministry would therefore like to inform the general public and prospective investors in the mineral sector that the geophysical data can now be accessed from the Geological Surveys Department from 24th August, 2015”, reads the statement.
Levison Undi, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Department of Mines in Ministry of Natural Resources Energy and Mining confirmed the launch to The Maravi Post that Minister Bright Msaka will officially preside over the ceremony at Bingu International Conference Center (BICC).
“I can comfortably confirm the launch of a countrywide high resolution airborne geophysical survey data which is very paramount to all investors in the mining industry as will be able to know exactly where minerals are located for exploration. This is the first time the country to have such kind of data hence we are calling them all to patronize the event”, appeals Undi
