
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As one way of winning the lost glory, the Malawi Police Commissioner for Central West Region, Meryline Yolamu had an interface with Lingadzi police officers where she called for a soul searching on professional service delivery.
The Commissioner made a call on September 18, 2020 during a customer care and professional code of conduct training.
Yolamu reminded officers that they are servants of the people such that they should treat people with respect in line with democratic values.
“We have to follow professional code of ethics, we should change according to changes that are happening in this country. As police, we need to be centred on democratic way of policing,” said Yolamu.
The message was cemented by Superintendent Patricia Njawiri who is the community policing coordinator and Superintendent Elizabeth Chambakata of regional Professional Standards Unit.
They both stressed on modern day of policing as human rights based and urged the officers to stick to the code of ethics to avoid being held accountable.
The officers were also told to put God first in their day to day work for ‘the fear of the Lord is the begging of wisdom.
Apart from that, the officers were also reminded to maintain police discipline.
