Martha Chizuma: ACB Director General

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)—The newly confirmed Director General for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Martha Chizuma, has vowed that her priority at her new work place will be pursuing cases which will bring back money to Malawi’s Account Number One.

Speaking to media yesterday, Chizuma said she only has three years to prove to the nation that she is the right in the fight against corruption.

“My area of focus will be cases that have got evidence and for which we can be able to recover Malawian public funds. That’s something that I am very passionate about to get back the money through the investigation and prosecution of those cases,” said Chizuma.

The former Malawi Ombudsperson further disclosed that part of first priority areas including putting right people in their corresponding positions to help her do the job with ease.

On Monday this week, the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament confirmed Chizuma. The committee failed to confirm her on Tuesday last week when some members of the same scored her lowly during the initial confirmation process.

Chizuma comes to the new position of director general of the graft busting body after serving as the country’s ombudsperson since 2016.
