Late Felix Mponda

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi’s celebrated journalist, who has worked with different media houses of international repute including the Maravi Post,  has today Friday succumbed to Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) at the Queens Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre.

According to family member Mike Mponda, late Felix Mponda tested positive few days ago after weeks of body pains.

“He has been feeling unwell for the past few weeks. A few days ago he tested positive for the coronavirus,” he said.

His body will be laid to rest tomorrow Saturday at Nancholi in Blantyre.

Mponda once worked for BBC, AFP, Times Group, Maravi Post and most recently MBC as an Online Editor.

He retired from MBC in December 2020.

His death comes barely a day after the passing on of MBC Radio 2 presenter Juliet Royo.

Mponda, a passionate journalist who wrote on on any subject under the sun, entered the newsroom in 1979.

Elwin Mandowa Managing Editor of the Maravi Post wrote on Facebook, the great Team of Ralph Tenthani, Claude Simwaka, Patrick Mwanza, Felix Mponda and Kondwani Munthali brought us instant Credibility and we hit the ground running.

I was planning to share Kentucky Bourbon with Felix Mponda because that is all he ever wanted from me.

He was a great reporter and even a better person. He will dearly be missed. My Condolences to Justice Mponda and the Family

May his soul rest in Peace?

He is survived by a wife and five children.
