LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Youths in the country have called on authorities to consider giving smooth access to business licenses to young entrepreneurs in the country.

The director of My Community My Responsibility, Brian Khembo, made the call on Wednesday, May 18 during a press briefing in Lilongwe.

Khembo for access of business license operations

Khembo, representing young entrepreneurs in the country, said it is disheartening to see young entrepreneurs in the country unable to access business licenses that can help them operate freely.

The call follows the recent case involving Lilongwe-based young entrepreneur running Greenlight Portifolio, Kondwani Phiri, who was dragged to court by Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) facing charges of operating financial institution illegally.

“Stakeholders should understand that young entrepreneurs are vibrant investors in as far as economy of the country is concerned. Therefore they should give guidance to the young upcoming entrepreneurs so that these entrepreneurs do not face challenges when it comes to regulations”, Khembo said.

Khembo added that lack of knowledge about youth rights, lack of decent jobs and few business opportunities and registration procedures are standing in the way of youth to access business opportunities.

The organisation has since organized a solidarity march on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from Lilongwe Community to the Parliament Building to present a petition to the country’s President Dr Lazarus Chakwera through the Minister of Youth Richard Chimwendo Banda to address the concerns that the youth are facing in the country.

“The petition we will present will tackle challenges that youths are facing in the country. We hope at the end of it all, they will be addressed” said Khembo
