LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Manchester United finally registered their first Premier League victory of the 2025/26 season with a nerve-wracking 3–2 win over Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils, who had gone winless in their opening two games a narrow 1–0 defeat to Arsenal and a 1–1 draw with Fulham went into the clash under heavy pressure to deliver.
Manager Ruben Amorim’s position had already come under scrutiny after the team’s shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town, making this fixture a must-win.
United struck first in the 27th minute when Casemiro’s header bounced off the crossbar and deflected into the net via Burnley captain Josh Cullen, putting the hosts 1–0 up. But Burnley equalising early in the second half through Lyle Foster.
Barely two minutes later, United’s new signing Bryan Mbeumo restored the lead with a cool finish his first goal for the club. Yet Burnley refused to fade, hitting back through Jaidon Anthony to level the score once more.
The game looked destined to end in frustration until deep into stoppage time, when Amad Diallo was brought down inside the penalty area.
After a lengthy VAR check, referee Sam Barrott pointed to the spot. Captain Bruno Fernandes, who had missed from the spot the smashed home the winner in the 97th minute, sparking wild celebrations around Old Trafford.
The victory not only eased the mounting tension but also lifted United up the standings. With four points from three matches, they now sit in 9th place on the Premier League table.
