MBC mourns the loss of senior producer Chikondi Phikiso

The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is mourning the loss of its senior producer, Chikondi Phikiso, who passed away in the early hours of today at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

Phikiso, who was based at MBC’s Kaning’ina studios, had been receiving medical care at the hospital for the past few days before succumbing to her illness.

Phikiso’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the MBC community, with colleagues and friends describing her as a dedicated and passionate professional who was deeply committed to her work.

“Chikondi was an exceptional producer who was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our programs were of the highest quality,” said one of her colleagues. “She was a true professional and a mentor to many of us here at MBC.”

Apart from her illustrious career at MBC, Phikiso was also a devoted servant of the Catholic Church.

She had served as Secretary of the Laity Council in the Archdiocese of Blantyre and at the National Level, demonstrating her deep commitment to her faith and her community.

Phikiso’s body will be collected from the mortuary at 9 am and taken to Katawa, St Maria Gorrett Sector for a home mass.

The funeral procession will then depart for Lilongwe, where burial will take place tomorrow at Area 18.

The news of Phikiso’s passing has been met with an outpouring of condolences from across the country.

MBC Director General, George Kasakula , described Phikiso as a “pillar of strength” within the organization. “Chikondi was an outstanding producer who was deeply loved and respected by her colleagues,” Kasakula said. “Her passing is a tremendous loss to MBC and to the entire broadcasting community in Malawi.”

Phikiso’s death is a reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring us the news, entertainment, and educational programs that we enjoy every day.

Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the many programs she produced during her time at MBC.

In related news, MBC has announced that it will hold a memorial service in honor of Phikiso on Friday at the MBC studios in Lilongwe.

The service will be attended by colleagues, friends, and family members, and will feature tributes and reflections on Phikiso’s life and legacy.
