BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has advised event organizers to ask journalists to present their press credentials before granting them access to events.
In an interview with Maravi Post,MCM Chief Executive Officer(CEO ), Moses Kaufa said this is in response to a rise in individuals posing as journalists at hotels and other event venues.
He explained that the measure aims to address the issue, which has tarnished the reputation of genuine journalists, who are now often perceived as beggars due to the actions of imposters seeking event sponsorships.
Meanwhile, media expert Dr. Sydney Kankuzi has proposed for stricter penalties from the MCM against those found impersonating journalists to curb the problem.
