The main opposition, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has urged the current Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership to initiate inclusive and tangible youth’s economic empowerment programs as the way to move this nation from abject poverty where youths are in majority.
The appeal was made on Sunday during the party’s youths directorate whistle stop tour in the Capital Lilongwe’ townships and a political rally organized at Lumbadzi in Dowa South East Constituency , aimed at rejuvenating the public memories of MCP existence after the 2014, May Tripartite elections which the party was a run up.
Speaking to Maravi Post, Felix Msambakunsi, and MCP’s National Youth Coordinator appealed the DPP regime to instigate sounding youth’s economic empowerment policies to young people across the country saying their exclusion in government developmental agenda was a suicidal to the country’s growth as they were in majority who could trickle down developmental policies into action.
“We appreciate little progress the current regime has done towards youths but more needs to be done in including them in government programs to the fullest. There are so many vacancies in various government departments but aren’t filled while many potential youths are languishing with poverty despite attaining highest education.
“This is the reason we are appealing to them considering youth as the core engine of Malawi’s social-economic growth. Bring tangible and workable youths programs which will move this nation forward not experimental ones”, urges Msambakunsi who was franked by Dowa South East’ Member of Parliament, Harry Njoka Chipeni and others party youth gurus the likes of Felix Kasinda.
Msambakunsi said the party’s youth’s directorate was on forefront pushing MCP’s developmental agendas to the public ahead of the next elections hence the whistle stop tours and rallies lined across the nation.
“The whistle stop tour and rally aimed at reminding the general public that MCP is still vibrant and ready to take leadership in the next general election although our victory during 2014 tripartite elections were robbed. This will instill confidence among the youth who are in majority now.
“This is one series of events party’s youth directorate will continue pursuing to country’s all corners mobilizing youths to subscribe MCP agendas for 2019 elections”, promises Msambakunsi.
In his remarks, Harry Njoka Chipeni, MP for Dowa South East applauded the party’s youths for lining up developmental rallies which has instill confidence in MCP’s leadership files.
“Our youths have raised valid national issues needed much attention for better Malawi. The party will continue advocating more budget allocations towards touchable youth’s programs which will empower them economically for sustainable growth”, assures Chipeni.
