MCP calls Ken Msonda to disciplinary hearing over alleged disloyal comments

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Congress Party has formally summoned Ken Msonda to appear before its Disciplinary Committee over accusations of misconduct and breach of the party’s core values, following remarks he made in a recent media interview.

In a notice dated 21st May 2026 and signed by MCP National Publicity Secretary Dr. Jessie Kabwila, the party stated that Msonda is expected to answer charges of serious misconduct and disloyalty.

The letter, issued from the MCP headquarters in Lilongwe, said the action was triggered by “inappropriate and disrespectful words” used by Msonda during an interview with a reporter.

According to the notice, the statements allegedly demonstrated a lack of commitment to the principles, unity, and vision of the party.

The Disciplinary Committee will review his conduct and decide on the appropriate action in line with the MCP constitution.

The hearing is scheduled for 25th May 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Headquarters in Area 3, Lilongwe. Msonda has been directed to attend in person to respond to the charges.

The notice warned that failure to appear could lead to further disciplinary measures as provided for in the party’s constitution.

Dr. Kabwila emphasized that the party treats discipline, unity, loyalty, and respect as non-negotiable values.

She said the notice was issued in the interest of fairness, accountability, and safeguarding the integrity of the movement.

“The Malawi Congress Party upholds discipline, unity, loyalty, and respect as non-negotiable values,” the statement read. “This notice is issued in the interest of fairness, accountability, and the integrity of our great movement.”

The development comes at a time when the ruling party has been pushing for internal cohesion ahead of upcoming political activities.

Party officials have repeatedly called on members to avoid public utterances that could undermine unity or damage the party’s image.

Msonda, a known political figure within MCP circles, has not yet publicly responded to the summons.

The outcome of the hearing is expected to clarify whether his comments constitute a breach of party discipline and what sanctions, if any, will follow.

Political analysts say the case will test how the MCP balances internal dissent with the need to maintain a united front.

The party’s constitution provides for a range of disciplinary actions, from warnings and suspensions to expulsion, depending on the severity of the offense.
