Malawi Congress Party (MCP) central region executive committee is scheduled to conduct elections on August 8, 2015 at its headquarter in the capital Lilongwe, aspirants are said to be spending sleepless nights busy wooing voters from committee members which has resulted into formation of two camps that of old guard and Millennials, The Maravi Post has learnt.
The Millennials are advocating for the complete erasing off old members into the forthcoming committee due to some shortfalls shown by failing to reach some districts to wooing votes in last year’s tripartite elections.
While the other camp seeks to mingle both the old and the young ones into a new committee saying erasing off old members would be a recipe for the party’s destruction.
“There are two camps imaged so far for the central region executive committee elections, one for old guards the other for young leaders. However, this is not strange looking at how central region performed in other districts during last year’s tripartite elections including Ntcheu and Nkhotakota.
“However, blending the old guards and young will be an ideal for the party’s strength such that sharing experiences is vital for wining formula a head of 2019 general elections which MCP at all cost must win to rejuvenate the collapsing of social-economic sectors since 1994”, alludes the source.
But Maxwell Thyolera told The Maravi Post that such division shows how vital central region executive elections were that members are looking for the cream to lead the party intensely a head of 2019 elections which was the main focus on these series of regional elections.
“All is set for central region executive committee such that aspirants have submitted the nomination papers ready for the battle. Every election has its own issues like that you are telling us now. This just show that members want vibrant leaders in all positions which will strengthen the party”, said Thyolera.
Completing the election race, Daniel Mlomo and MP Chilondola are battling out for the Regional Chairperson seat, Kasungu law marker Alex Major and veteran broadcaster Jolly Kalero are up in arms for Regional Secretary, Brian Damba is competing with Vumani Chidzanja for Director of research post, .
Funny Ntambisa is vying for Publicity Secretary Seat with the mind to work closely with the media. Dowa youthful legislator Richard Chimwendo is seeking Regional Director Position while Aaron Kafakamoyo is itching for Regional Treasure post.
The Maravi Post caught up with Aaron Kafakamoyo on how regional funds were to be handled efficiently in reviving party structures in rural areas.
“I have decided to stand for the regional treasure position in order to improve financial transparency and accountability with the party’s funds. We want to use funds efficiently to hard reach areas in a bid to rejuvenate party structures through numerous fundraising activities” assures Kafakamoyo.
Central region executive committee elections come after the party conducted similar event in the southern region on June 20, 2015 which the north and eastern regions will follow in a bid t o strengthen the party structures.
