BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has extended an invitation to all former leaders of the Republic of Malawi to join the Independence Day celebrations on July 6 at Bingu National Stadium.
The celebrations mark the country’s 61st anniversary of independence from British colonial rule.
MCP Publicity Secretary, Jessie Kabwila, emphasized the importance of unity during this national celebration, stating that despite political differences, it’s essential to come together to commemorate this special day.
Kabwila highlighted the significance of Independence Day, noting that it commemorates Malawi’s liberation from British colonial rule on July 6, 1964.
The MCP has expressed pride in its achievements and governance, with Kabwila praising President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership, describing him as a unifying figure who has brought peace and stability to the country.
Deputy Publicity Secretary Ken Msonda echoed Kabwila’s sentiments, urging parents to accompany their children to the celebrations to ensure a peaceful celebration.
However, the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP), spokesperson, Shadreck Namalomba, has stated that they didn’t receive any invitation, adding that if they receive an invitation, they will attend to focus on the challenges Malawians are facing in the country.
The Independence Day celebrations are expected to be a significant event, bringing together Malawians from all walks of life to commemorate the country’s independence.
