In a bid to mitigate high levels of unemployment among the youth, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Nsanje-Lalanje Constituency, Lawrence Sitolo, has launched a free driving school for the youth of his area, hence donated a vehicle to be used in the initiative.
According to the youthful parliamentarian, the vehicle valued at MK3.8 Million will help in scaling down high levels of unemployment registered among the youth in the area.
Said Sitolo in an interview: “Through free driving lessons, the youth will be helped to acquire driving licences and get employed elsewhere.”
None-segregative, the lawmaker said, the beneficiaries, are all youths from the constituency, regardless of their political party affiliation.
He therefore appealed to the youth of Nsanje-Lalanje to take advantage of this donation, which will go a long way in helping them acquire driving licences.
He has since urged those managing the initiative to be on guard against abuse of the facility when he said: “Those interested should be given a chance regardless of their political attachment.”
Parliamentarian Lawrence Sitolo had emmerged winner in the historical October 17, 2017 by-election that saw his main contender, Gladys Ganda of the the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) staggering with defeat.
The by-election followed the death of the former DPP legislator for the area, Sam Ganda who was husband to Sitolo’s contender Gladys Ganda.
The October 17 by-elections had given the main opposition MCP a landmark victory in five constituencies and wards in different places of the country as it was popularly described as “5-1” in the local media.
