LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Ntchisi South constituency, Ulemu Chilapondwa, has apologised to the rural masses for claiming that cooking oil is for the privileged people.
This comes after Chilapondwa’s insensitive Comment regarding cooking oil in response to opposition leader in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa’s request to government to consider removing tax on cooking oil to make it affordable to Malawians.

In his statement, Chilapondwa said there are real issues that the people in village are facing and not cooking oil as the product is for the elites and not a common Malawian.
The insensitive remarks attracted mass anger.
In response to the criticisms, Chilaponda issued an apology on Wednesday in the August House adding that his statement was indeed irresponsible as he was carried away by the parliamentary proceedings.
He has therefore reversed his speech by saying cooking oil is need for everyone regardless of the geographic setting.
This is not the first time the Member of Parliament for Ntchisi South has come under fire. In July 2021, Chilapondwa posted a statement on Facebook that angered several people and attracted mass critics.
In his post, he likened Malawians to frogs which were whining about the controversial decision made by the President which most people described as government’s departure from the campaign promises.
