MCP to celebrate Kamuzu Day with Tambala dinner dance

The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is geared to honour its father and founder of the nation, Dr Hasting Kamuzu Banda on Thursday with series of events including memorial ceremony and Tambala diner dance .

Speaking to the press conference on Wednesday evening in the capital Lilongwe ahead of the Kamuzu Day which falls on May 14, MCP’s Spokesperson, Dr Jessie Kabwira said everything was set for the day as the nation will be united in celebrating the achievements Dr. Banda did to Malawi.

Dr. Kabwira said the party decided to celebrate Kamuzu Day in style this year to remind Malawians how hard and determined Dr Banda showed to improve the social and economic development of this nation which still stands today.

“This year’s commemoration of Kamuzu Day will be in three categories, firstly the day will be marked with memorial ceremony at his mausoleum ( at the city centre), then series of activities showcasing Dr. Banda’s achievements and legacy he left to Malawian (at Civil Stadium) which will be followed by Tambala Dinner Dance at Crossroad Hotel.

“We have left the two events in the morning and afternoon to Kamuzu family to lead them all but the evening event will conducted by the party which will be part of MCP’s fundraising hence individuals, business persons, diplomats, NGOs are encouraged to buy tickets for the Tambala Dance.

Dr. Kabwira said Kamuzu Day should not be politicized in any way hence the family and the party have sent invitations to all political parties and Malawians to grace the occasion saying Dr Banda left the nation with one vision of one Malawi.

“The invitation has been sent to all political parties, diplomats including former head of state, Dr Bakili Muluzi, to be part of the event. We have to be together as a nation in remembering what our father left us which is still relevant to learn from especially his legacy of statesmanship to move this nation forward”, said Dr. Kabwira.

Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda was the first President to rule Malawi from independence, 1964 to 1993 when Malawians decided multiparty system of government in1994 which Dr Bakili Muluzu led the nation till 2004.However, Dr Kamuzu legacy of developing Malawi still stands today characterized by infrastructure development, food and national securities among others. Kamuzu Day is also public day in Malawi.
