LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a twist of event, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has withdrawn its appeal to the Supreme Court that stopped the elective convention to take place.
This means earlier stay order court has no legal effect and the convention will proceed as planned starting tomorrow, August 8 to 10, 2024 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe. .
MCP lawyer Wapona Kita confirmed the development a while ago to The Maravi Post.
“My client has instructed me to withdraw the appeal in the circumstances which means the order from the Supreme Court will have no legal to stand on.
“This means that the convention will proceed tomorrow as client has weighed in on the cost of postponing the elective convention,” says Kita.
Kita added that he has passed on the position of his client to the justice of appeal and the court “has taken note of our course of action. ”
Meanwhile, MCP delegates are registering for the convention.
