BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Congress Party (MCP), once notorious for its oppressive legacy, has once again shown its true colors by disregarding the rule of law.

Yesterday’s court ruling, which declared the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) resolution unconstitutional has fallen on deaf ears.

The MCP insists on implementing their draconian rule, barring individuals who have not held any position within the party for two years from contesting for NEC positions.

This blatant disregard for the judiciary’s verdict is a stark reminder of the MCP’s dark past, where opponents were thrown into crocodile-infested waters and dissenting voices were brutally silenced.

The party’s actions today are a clear indication of their intentions to revive this era of oppression and entrench a one-party system of government.

The MCP’s legacy of cruelty and disregard for human rights is well-documented.

During their reign, political opponents were subjected to forced labor, torture, and even death.

The party’s leader, Hastings Kamuzu Banda, was notorious for his ruthlessness, and his regime was marked by widespread human rights abuses.

Fast-forward to today, and it seems the MCP has not learned from its past mistakes.

Their disregard for the rule of law and the court’s ruling is a clear indication of their intention to continue their oppressive ways.

By ignoring the judiciary’s verdict, the MCP is showing contempt for the very principles of democracy and the rule of law.

The party’s actions are not only a threat to democracy but also a betrayal of the trust placed in them by the people of Malawi.

During the 2019, election campaign, the MCP portrayed itself as a champion of the rule of law, but their actions now prove otherwise.

The MCP’s resolution, which bars new members from contesting for NEC positions, is a clear attempt to stifle competition and entrench a culture of nepotism and corruption.

By doing so, they are denying party members their right to participate in the democratic process and choose their leaders freely.

The court’s ruling yesterday was clear: the MCP’s NEC has no authority to pass eligibility criteria that go against the provisions of its own constitution.

Yet, the party insists on implementing their unconstitutional resolution, showing blatant disregard for the rule of law.

This is not the first time the MCP has shown contempt for the judiciary.

In the past, they have ignored court rulings and continued to do as they please.

This behavior is a threat to the very fabric of our democracy and cannot be tolerated.

Malawians must send a clear message to the MCP that their actions will not be tolerated.

The party must be held accountable for their disregard of the constitution and the rule of law.

They must face consequences for their actions, and their attempts to revive their oppressive legacy must be thwarted

The MCP’s disregard for the rule of law is a clear indication of their intention to continue their oppressive ways.

Their actions are a threat to democracy, and they must be stopped.

Malawians must stand together and reject the MCP’s attempts to revive their dark past.

We must defend our democracy and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.

The MCP must never be allowed to rule again, lest we forget the atrocities they committed in the past.
