MEC Chairperson Mtalimanja urges JB to promote peace and issue-based campaign

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, has reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to delivering elections that are free, fair, transparent, and credible.

Speaking during the official presentation of nomination papers by presidential candidate Dr. Joyce Banda, Justice Mtalimanja underscored the importance of integrity and professionalism in the electoral process.

She encouraged Dr. Banda to focus on an issue-based campaign, emphasizing that Malawians deserve leaders who prioritize solutions over personal attacks.

Justice Mtalimanja further appealed to the presidential candidate to be an ambassador of peace, calling for tolerance and maturity on all political platforms.

She said peaceful engagement among candidates and their supporters is key to preserving national unity and democratic progress.

In her remarks, the MEC Chairperson extended her call to all political stakeholders, urging them to work together towards building a unified and inclusive Malawi.

She emphasized that electoral competition must never come at the cost of national cohesion and social harmony.

Justice Mtalimanja also encouraged Dr. Banda and her team to mobilize citizens across the country to participate actively in the electoral process.

She reminded the candidate that voter turnout is essential to achieving a representative and legitimate government.
