A shocking revelation has emerged from Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) sources, confirming that the name of Commissioner Francis Kasaila and his spouse are missing from the MEC database.
This anomaly was discovered when the couple attempted to transfer their voter registration to Mpatsa Community Day School in Blantyre.
According to sources at Mpatsa Community Day School, Commissioner Kasaila and his spouse had registered at Ngumbe in Blantyre and sought to transfer their registration to the new location.
However, when officials tried to scan their National Identity cards and voter’s certificates, their names could not be traced in the database.
In a surprising twist, the couple’s children were able to access transfers without any issues, as their names were found in the database.
Commissioner Kasaila’s response to the anomaly was cryptic, stating only that “the Commission will issue a statement on the same.”
The MEC Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, promised to provide further comment but had not done so at the time of writing.
This incident raises serious concerns about the integrity of the MEC database and the potential for disenfranchisement.
With the 2025 elections looming, the opposition has been vocal about its distrust of the MEC and its ability to conduct free and fair elections.
Commissioner Kasaila’s involvement in the controversy is particularly noteworthy, given his recent backing of Election Management Devixe platform for electronic transmission of election results.
