In a remarkable display of academic excellence and determination, Stellia Banda, a brilliant student from Malawi, has made history by pursuing two degrees simultaneously and graduating with distinction and credit. This inspiring young woman’s story is a testament to her unwavering commitment to education and her unrelenting passion for learning.
Stellia’s academic journey is nothing short of extraordinary. By day, she studied soil science at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)’s Bunda Campus, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy.
By night, and often in between, she mastered tech skills online through Amity University in India, studying for a degree in Computer Applications. This demanding schedule required immense courage, focus, and dedication, but Stellia persevered, and her hard work paid off.
In November 2024, Stellia graduated with a Distinction from Amity University and a Credit from LUANAR, a remarkable achievement that showcases her intellectual prowess and academic excellence. But Stellia’s academic ambition didn’t stop there.
She had already earned two certificates in Farmer Business Game and Micro Business Game, sharpening her knowledge in agricultural entrepreneurship.
Stellia’s journey to academic success was not without its challenges.
Born in a remote area of T/A Mwase in Kasungu, she is the youngest of six children and the first in her family to attend university. Despite the odds, she remained determined to succeed, driven by her passion for learning and her desire to make a difference.
Before pursuing her degrees, Stellia acquired practical skills in bricklaying at Namitete Technical College and worked with several organizations, including Malawi Housing Corporation, Alliance One Tobacco, and Prem Construction. This diverse experience has equipped her with a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.
When asked about her approach to challenges, Stellia said, “When I start doing something, I do it with tooth and nail to get it done.” This bold statement reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence and her determination to succeed.
Stellia’s remarkable achievements serve as an inspiration to young people everywhere, demonstrating that with hard work, dedication, and perseverance, anything is possible.
