Mitundu Baptist secure promotion to TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The number of teams promoted to Malawi’s top-flight football league for the upcoming season has now been finalized following the confirmation of Mitundu Baptist as the third side to earn promotion from the NBS Bank National Division League.

Mitundu Baptist joins Baka City and Red Lions as the three teams that will compete in the TNM Super League next season.

The confirmation came after Mitundu Baptist registered an emphatic 6–0 victory over Jenda United over the weekend a result that sealed their promotion with one game remaining in the season.

Star striker Raheem Mtondera was the standout performer in the match, scoring an incredible five goals to lead his side to one of their biggest wins of the season.

The remaining goal was scored by Josophat Kwalira, completing a dominant performance that underlined Mitundu Baptist’s attacking strength and ambition to compete at the highest level.

Mtondera’s five-goal haul pushed his season tally to 24 league goals, strengthening his position at the top of the goal scorers’ chart and confirming his status as one of the most lethal forwards in the division.

With each team left with only one fixture before the season concludes, Mitundu Baptist has accumulated 38 points, placing them third on the league table and safely within the promotion zone.

Teams trailing behind Mitundu Baptist can no longer mathematically reach their points total, meaning their promotion place is fully secured regardless of the outcome of the final round of matches.

However, Mitundu Baptist still has a chance to finish second if they win their final match and rivals Baka City fail to collect maximum points with the two sides separated by just one point.

Red Lions were the first team to confirm promotion earlier in the season, using their experience as former top flight champions to dominate the league and return to the TNM Super League at the first attempt.

The NBS Bank National Division League, being played for the first time in Malawi, has provided a competitive platform for clubs aiming to reach the elite level of domestic football.
