MKAKA'S DOWNFALL CONTINUES:

By Twink Jones Gadama

The political career of Eisenhower Nduwa Mkaka, once a powerful figure in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has suffered another significant blow.

Mkaka, who was defeated in his bid to become the party’s Secretary General at the recent elective convention, has been excluded from the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The MCP held a press conference on Sunday at its headquarters in Lilongwe, where the convention steering committee announced the names of officials appointed to various positions in the NEC.

However, Mkaka’s name was conspicuously absent from the list, a clear indication that his influence within the party has waned.

Mkaka’s downfall began when he was defeated by Richard Chimwendo Banda, the party’s former director of youth, in the contest for the Secretary General position.

This defeat marked the beginning of the end of Mkaka’s powerful and arrogant reign at the MCP.

During his tenure as CEO, Mkaka’s leadership was marred by irregularities, which made him fall out of favor with many party members.

His attempts to formulate draconian laws aimed at barring other candidates from competing in various positions at the elective convention were met with resistance, and the court ultimately intervened to stop the party’s steering committee from implementing such laws.

The exclusion of Mkaka from the NEC is a significant development, as it indicates that the party is moving on without him.

While some big casualties of the elective conference, such as Ken Zikhale Ng’oma and Vitumbiko Mumba, have been appointed as ordinary members, Mkaka has failed to even secure a position as an ordinary member.

The story of Mkaka serves as a lesson to all politicians in the country that arrogance and a lack of respect for party members can have severe consequences.

As the MCP moves forward, it is clear that Mkaka is no longer a part of the party’s plans.

In a surprising move, newcomers Ken Msonda and Uladi ‘Chenjigolo’ Mussa have been appointed to positions within the party, with Msonda becoming the second deputy Publicity Secretary and Mussa becoming the second deputy campaign director.

These appointments indicate that the party is looking to inject new blood and fresh ideas into its ranks.

As the MCP prepares for the future, it is clear that Mkaka’s era is over.

The party will need to find new leaders to take it forward, and it appears that Mkaka will not be part of that journey.
